The hood is intended for use with the battery-powered fan units SR 500, SR 500 EX, or SR 700 as part of the Sundström powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) system. The hood's breathing hose is connected to the fan unit equipped with filters. The positive pressure generated inside the hood prevents particles and other contaminants from entering.

The hood can also be used together with the SR 507 compressed air attachment. This combination forms a continuous-flow breathing apparatus for connection to a compressed air supply.

The equipment can be used as an alternative to filtering respiratory protection in all situations where such protection is recommended. This is particularly suitable for heavy, hot, or prolonged work.

NOTE: The SR 520 hood contains natural rubber latex in its elastic straps, which may cause allergic reactions.
